I'm a Bit Stressed

"Let the beloved of the LORD rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the LORD loves rests between his shoulders." Deuteronomy 33:12

I confess: I'm a worrier. I didn't used to be but, every year, I get worse.

The washer's making a strange sound - what if it breaks?
I haven't talked to my sister in a week. I hope she's alright.
Do we have enough to retire?
If we do retire, can I stand having my sweet husband home all day, every day?

So, I'm stressed. About silly things. Things I can't change. Things that have a one-in-a-million chance of actually happening.

Can you relate?

Instead of focusing on the unknowns of tomorrow, we can find peace in the beautiful words in Deuteronomy 33:12

  • Beloved
  • Rest
  • Secure
  • Shield
We are the Lord's beloved, we can rest in Him - we don't have to be anxious or worried.
We can be secure in Him - He is in control. He's never caught off guard.
He shields us all day long - every day. He knows what's coming. The silly worries or the serious struggles. He's there.

Next time stress creeps in, rest.

How does the Lord bring rest to your worries?

  1. I'm a worrier, too, Sherry. It seems like once I get started, I really get on a roll and start imagining all sorts of scary things. After years of practice, I can usually stop, take a deep breath, and say out loud "Lord, there's not a thing I can do about this. I'm giving this to you." His peace usually floods through me, and I'm able to turn my attention to other things. Yay, God!

  2. Guilty (raising hand!). I was so stressed the other night I tho't I was having a heart attack or stroke. Seriously. But my husband held me, explained (again) about the situation, and I realized I'd forgotten a key part of the whole thing. I relaxed. I know I need to rest in God and let him handle situations, especially those I can do nothing about, but it's a matter of action, I think. of purposely placing our fears and worries into someone far greater than ourselves--into his care. Thanks for the important reminder!

  3. Sorry i haven't replied to your post. I've been staying with a dear friend who's in the hospital. Just the time I need to trust God!

  4. Carole, I tend to forget what God's doing too. When I put my eyes back on Him, peace always comes.
